Sketches: Polaroids Made in Africa is a graphically striking
small press publication of photographs taken by the Dutch artist in
Africa between 2002 and 2010. Dealing in the currency of the staged and
the spontaneous, these street photographs represent a kind of
speculative personal history for Sassen, who spent her early years
growing up in Africa. They are filled with sadness, wonderment,
playfulness and hope.
