Pioneer

Blank Books
Em memória de Michael Gibbs, que publicou "All or Nothing: an anthology of Blank Books", fizeram uma exposição só com livros em branco, Blank Book Makers. Eu incluiria o livro do Nuno Ramos, "Balada", mostrado na foto abaixo.
Blank Book Makers In Memoriam Michael Gibbs
2nd to 17th June 2012
13h-19h Tuesday-Sunday
This exhibition is meant to address the latest developments in artists’ book history. An amazing corpus of new works makes up a most dynamic overview. There are many books dealing with topics such as emptiness, space, or the very substance of pages, and we deemed it necessary to look at the influence of books that have been published in neighbouring fields to that of the artist’s book or bookworks publications, in order for us to better define our investigation. Showing all facets and aspects through the most significant images was an option made difficult by the abundance of publications. We attempted to identify and showcase the current ideas and needs of the artist’s book medium (see below the list of books exhibited).
The exhibition Blank Book Makers is initiated by Izet Sheshivari and Ramaya Tegegne and curated and set up by Izet Sheshivari at Fonderie Kugler, Geneva.

Bertrand Lavier
Bertrand Lavier
Walt Disney Productions

Ingo Giezendanner
"My previous picture book was about a train trip to Baku, this book documents my ferry trip accross the Mediterranean Sea to Alexandria (or Iskandariyah as it is called in Arabic). I was invited to exhbit my work and conduct a workshop organized by the artist-run Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum (ACAF). This paperback is a selection of the many drawings that transpired on this amazing journey.
Not all my drawings are of a scene that catches my eye. Often it starts with coming across a really comfortable spot where I can sit undisturbed for some time amongst the hustle and rumble of a busy city. This, for me, can be quite meditative. Later, I scan the drawings to upload onto my website and other applications.
This time round, I also experimented with the drawings and hope to present this book as my personal development or work in progress. I wish to share the overwhelming experience of drawing the ocean and have tried to capture the simultaneous static second and fluid element of the water by flushing the drawings through a scanner and allowing them to distort as they wish to flow, much like the city, much like life itself."
Ingo Giezendanner alias GRRRR, July 2011
Since 1998, Ingo Giezendanner documents his surroundings
with pen on paper. He produces zines, murals, books, exhibitions, video
clips and maintains a website (GRRRR.net) to create his own world

Daniel Steegmann Mangrané
172 mm × 245 mm 512 pages, 256 color illustrations, softcover ISBN 978-3-943514-08-7
Started in 1998, the Lichtzwang series consists today of more than 300 watercolors, all on 15 x 21 cm sheets of graph paper.
Most works in the series are made up of groups of several watercolors wherein each successive work is a variation of the previous, showing a transformation. The last watercolor usually matches the first one, so that each group forms a loop that could be installed in any order.
The process of realization is, however, guided by simple rules (play with the grid on the sheet, each item that appears in the watercolor lasts for three sheets), rules that bind while allowing improvisation and the introduction of a certain randomness in the process.
These watercolors have the generic title Lichtzwang (lightduress or lightconstraint) which in turn is the title of a book of poems by Paul Celan. Between 2000 and 2003 Daniel dedicated himself exclusively to this work, and it was at this time and through these watercolors that many of the interests and issues later explored in other media came to the fore, such as: color; space; time; structure; movement; modularity; variation; permutation; narrative; language; the loop ...
This publication comprises a selection of 256 watercolours made between 1998 and 2012 and was typed with the new Lichtzwang typeface and is published on the occasion of the presentation of the work at the 2012 São Paulo Biennial The Imminence of Poetics.
30 copies include an original drawing signed and numbered by the artist available at Mendes Wood gallery who through their generous support made this publication possible.
Daniel Steegmann Mangrané was born in Barcelona in 1977 and since 2004 lives in Brazil.

Franz Mon
linguagem e do texto.
